No matter how you built or what you have used build a website, there are always do’s and don’ts that you need to be aware of. It is very that you do not do things to your site that will send visitors away.
When you build your own website:
- Do ensure your website is simple. Be sure not to clutter it with too much information that will make visitors eyes hurt.
- Do try and make it aesthetically pleasing. Do not go all out with different colours and font styles. Instead, stick to one standard font style and use subtle, blending colour for the background.
- Don’t use a Flash introduction. Although you make think your site is high-tech and cool looking, most people will stop the loading straight away and exit your site.
- Don’t use music or sound files on your site. If people go onto a site and all of a sudden music starts blaring out, they will panic and exit the site immediately.
- Don’t put loads of graphics on your page. Although the page will look really modern and nice, the images will take ages to load and visitors will get bored.
- Do make sure visitors to your site know straight away what it is about. Make sure you make it obvious what your site is and what’s in it in the homepage. If it is confusing for the visitors they will assume you don’t have what they are looking for and they will leave.
- Don’t use pop-ups on your web site. These are annoying and nobody wants that. I know for a fact that there are no good factors about pop-ups when it comes to websites. Stay clear of them.
Hope you find this information useful and enjoy building your own websites.
